Twenty Three - Glide Like Tinkerbell On Halloween Costume Wings

By Mathew Nathon

The perfect accessories can greatly enhance any look. One of the most popular dress-up accessories is Halloween costume wings. Whether you plan to sport a heavenly angel costume, or a darkly evil devil costume, the wings you choose can take your look to another level. They can also create a holiday hazard, if worn discourteously. There are a few ways you can create the perfect set of keywords and a few things to remember when wearing them.

Wings are usually easy to operate, simply slip your arms through the elastic and, ta da! You are wearing them! Your fairy, angel, or demon costume is complete! What could possibly go wrong now?

Make sure the elastic fits comfortably, without too much slipping. No set of Halloween costume wings is made completely perfect, and the more you wear them the more they will probably stretch. So beyond trying them on for fitting purposes, avoid wearing them for extended periods of time until the festivities begin. Avoid tugging on the straps as well.

Wings that fit too tightly run the risk of snapping. Elastic, being elastic, has a tendency to recoil very quickly. An unexpected break could damage an unprepared bystander's eye, or sting bare skin. On the other hand, you do not want your wings sliding off. Loose wings could wind up falling in the punch bowl.

Sizing aside, you can easily modify your wings with some fabric glue and embellishments. Remember, they are yours, so make them original! Add a few fake gems or puffy pom poms to plastic wings. If you are really creative, cut out stencils and add a spray-painted design to the wings. Fabric paint can also be used to accent and highlight parts of the design.

It would not hurt to be prepared to ditch the wings after you start your Halloween partying. Have a fall back plan for broken wings, either ask the host or hostess for a place to stow them or be prepared to return them to your vehicle. You do not want to be the rude guest who was hiding their broken costume around the house.

Always remember to be courteous in tight places. Your wings will inevitably stick out farther than you are used to, since you do not naturally have wings. Remember this as you pass by buffet tables and other guests. If you do accidentally hit a fellow Halloween party goer, make sure you excuse yourself or risk looking selfish in your fairy costume.

Halloween costume wings are an excellent addition to any costume that calls for them. With a few inexpensive additions and modifications you can create a unique pattern that will make everyone wonder where you bought them. Remember to use courtesy when enjoying parties and wings at the same time. Size is important as well, Halloween costume wings that do not fit can become a hazard. Most importantly, remember to enjoy donning your new found wings and lose yourself in your new angel, fairy, devil or whatever persona. Edited by Svetchey Sanorols
