You will want to rent a post-office box for receiving any mail related to your home business. It is not safe to publish your address online, and you need to be careful. Having a PO box is a security measure and will prevent someone you don't know from coming to your home unannounced.

I like to have a main menu under the masthead at the top (Home, About Us, Contact Us, etc.), then a more detailed menu on the left (including subpages of the one that you're on), and lastly a text menu at the bottom that replicates the menu under the masthead.

Choose your home business based on your personality. If you love kids, open a daycare. If you are a great salesperson, become a real estate agent. If you can't stand talking, become a software programmer. There are a million different choices you can make which will work beautifully with the skills you have.

Don't overlook marketing and sales. When you work at home, it is easy to get caught up in the production side of your business - especially if you do most of the production yourself. Making contacts, advertising, marketing, and closing the deal are vital aspects to your business success. If selling isn't your thing, consider out-sourcing this part of your business.

"Too big to not fail" may apply to some large online marketplaces. As a new seller, you may be lost in the shuffle. You may find your quality product awash in a sea of cheap foreign manufactured ones. The marketplace may be disorganized and give poor service. Ask around. Try to find a new and smaller site that sells quality products similar to yours. Here you can thrive.

Home owner's insurance is NOT enough to cover your home business, so contact an independent insurance agent to find out what else you need. Examples of insurance types that apply to a home business are disability, health, liability, licensing, life, property, and workers' compensation. Talk to your accountant as well about how much money you can afford to spend on insurance.
