Question And Answer Guide To Credit Cards

By James Greg

You may be wondering, what is the difference between a credit card and a VISA prepaid card. Well, there are not many differences they both just have a few minor differences, which will now be cleared.

What Are Credit Cards And What Are They Used For? Credit cards are provided by the bank in which you open an account in. The bank allows you to use their money setting a limitation. These cards are often under programs which are known as credit card programs, which allow you to get something in return for using the card.

Which Credit Cards Give Benefits? All credit cards which are under the credit card programs let you avail benefits. Some of the cards are co-branded with companies which help you receive benefits off of them. If we assume BP merges with MasterCard and your bank accepts MasterCard credit cards, after reaching a certain amount of points, BP will offer you gifts such as free gas, or free ice cream, or a chance to win air tickets.

In this program, some online stores, gas stations, and local restaurants give you points every time you use your card which comes into the offer. Let us assume that your VISA prepaid card is also in that program, so every time you use the card at the specific destination which accepts it you get points.

Where Can I Use Credit Cards? You can use your credit card anywhere you'd like to. You may use it to purchase a new T.V or you may use it to hire a rental car. The credit card programs offer the user perks as well. Let us assume your bank gives you points for using your card at a certain store. Once you have enough points you can receive perks from the store such as cash back or buy 1 get 1 free offer which are available to those who use credit cards only.

Let us think that you receive a brochure in the mail, with a special portion claiming special offers. Often those are only available for VISA prepaid card holders, or MasterCard prepaid card holders. This is because VISA has co-branded with a certain company to help you get benefits.

How Can I Make Payments? You can use the card everywhere and make payments by either making a transaction or receiving the amount through an ATM, or by swiping your card through a card reader machine which will deduct the amount you have spent. If you swipe your card, you will be given a receipt which you will have to sign as proof that you have used this particular amount at the certain place.

Some companies may be co-branded with either one of the two, and some with both. This depends on the company. Let us assume the airline which has co-branded with VISA gives you a 10% discount on the usage of your credit cards whereas the airline co-branded with MasterCard gives another offer.

Credit card programs can be useful and beneficial for you in more than one way as they are convenient. Do not forget that the offers offered vary depending on the credit card you have, some may choose to go with MasterCard while others go for the VISA prepaid card.
