Comparison Between Thermal Transfer Ribbons And Direct Thermal Transfer

It is very hard to find a monopolized product or service in the world today if there is no regulation from the government to protect a certain product. There is an option for almost every product. The same applies to thermal printing. There are two main kinds of thermal printing which are thermal transfer ribbons and direct thermal transfer. As their names suggest, one uses ribbons to imprint information while other does not need the ribbon.

As you go into the market for the product, you will have to have done your research. Learn everything you can about it so that you do not incur unexpected problems in the future. In the case of these thermal printers, the direct one faces the risk of a lot of wear and tear and may need constant maintenance. The thermal transfer, however, has a protective back-coat thus lasting longer.

With the direct current transmission, it is not the same. The dust and debris that may be present in the labels are in direct contact with the print head. In the process of being pulled across the print head, they may burn or physically damage the elements. In the long run, you will have printed out poor quality or premature print head failure.

The printer configuration. There are printers that can do both direct and current transmissions. You can have such and choose which one you prefer. However, there are the printers specifically made for the direct current transmission. These are more affordable as they do not have all the hardware needed to support transmission ribbons. This also saves on time as you do not have to constantly change ribbons.

Once you buy something, you do not plan on constantly replacing it or repair it. So you should know what product is most durable. Some people go for any coated direct thermal printer because they believe that as long as it is coated it if the best quality. They forget even the poor quality types can be coated just for the market.

All these labels have various specifications. Each model of the different printers is different. They have different speeds and use different amounts of heat. The best thing is to avoid a lot of heat and go for maximum speed. A lot of heat may cause damage to the readability of the material. A bar code on a product may be undetectable therefore buying the product is harder.

Before settling for one of the print methods, consider their life. This means the amount of time they are good for. You should be keen on the amount of time your product is likely to last in the market. If it will be there for a while, you should consider the current transfer techniques. It can withstand even the harsh weather conditions. Therefore, there is no risk of the consumers being unable to read the contents.

You may be thinking of going to current transfer printers. Surprisingly, they are a danger to the environment compared to the direct printers. The current printers have a lot of machinery thus using a lot of chemicals. The direct printer does not have the ribbon changing process and is even easier to operate.
