Developing Mobile Apps For Churches

By Jazzi George

There are some three things that you need to understand properly, before you can create good mobile apps for churches. Here, we are not focusing on programming and design technologies you need to have a firm understanding of: it is assumed that you already have a good grasp of the technical side of things. Rather, we are focusing on practical 'church-related' things you need to have some understanding of - against a background where you need to know how something normally works, before you can be in a position to create an app for it.

It would probably be much easier if you have been approached by the church itself and personally asked to create a specific app with certain features they have in mind. You can simply base it on what they tell you. It is quite different when you are working independently, and you plan on selling the developed apps later on to the churches. You have to be enlightened about three things first.

First of all, gaining an understanding of the scriptures would be very useful when you are planning on developing good mobile apps for churches. An example would be an app that would help the users read the scriptures online. In that scenario, you'd need to understand basic things, like how the bible is structured, how many books it has, how long the respective books are- and so on. But even if you are not developing a bible app, you will still need to have some basic understanding of what the bible says on various things. The worst you can do is to create a church app, only for it to be rejected on account of it being 'encouraging unbiblical practices' in some way.

Another thing you must have a full grasp and clear understanding of before you start creating mobile apps for churches is on worship practices and procedures. Let us say, for instance, that you are aiming on developing a prayer app. The thing you should understand first is the different ways that a prayer is said or delivered, and why some people find it difficult to say those prayers. There is a risk that non-understanding could lead to the loss of essence of a certain church practice. Say, for example, a confession app. You should know its intricacies first. It can be hard for you as a non-Christian to have full appreciation of these things: hence the scenario where app development for churches has mostly been left to Christian app developers.

You should also definitely take into account the manner with which these churches manage their finances. If you create mobile apps for churches, this is equally important. This knowledge would also facilitate the costing you will be doing on your app development services. Pricing of the app, should you decide to go commercial with it, would also be aided greatly. Make sure you are armed with all these information so as to ensure that you minimize the risk of creating apps that are not viable.
