8 Main Air conditioning Parts and the way They Work

By Ian Parker

Here is the collection of 8 principal air conditioning parts and clarification of their main function in every air con device.

1. air-con or heat pump compressor which compresses reduced pressure refrigerant gas into a very high pressure, hot temperature gas. Usually the compressor is in the backyard portion of an air conditioning or heat pump structure. The a/c or heat pump compressor device is basically a very high pressure pump driven by an electric motor. The air con pump motor is often packaged in the outdoor compressor or condenser element.

2. A condenser or condensing element: generally a condensing coil contained within which hot temperature very high pressure refrigerant gas streams, and over which a fan blows air to cool the refrigerant gas back to a liquid state (and hence converting heat from the refrigerant gas towards the air being blown by the fan). The condenser component is basically a coil of finned tubing and a fan to move air along the coil. Usually the condenser element is in the outside portion of an air conditioning device, often times packaged along with compressor pump described above

3. A metering device which provides liquid refrigerant inside an evaporator coil. The metering appliance may be simply a small portion of tubing or it may be a bit more sophisticated thermostatic expansion valve consisting of a temperature sensing control which could open and shut the appliance against refrigerant flow.

4. An evaporator coil or cooling coil: often the cooling coil is a element of finned tubing (it looks similarly to an auto radiator) into which liquid refrigerant is metered and tolerated to evaporate from liquid to gas state inside the coil. This state change of the refrigerant, from liquid to gas, assimilates heat, cooling the evaporator coil surface and in consequence cooling internal air blown along the cooling coil. In most cases the cooling coil is placed inside the air handler.

5. An air handler as well as blower item that provides a fan to distribute building air across or through the evaporator coil. The air handler blower fan device delivers building air across the evaporator coil surface with a purpose to condition building air by cooling it.

6. A duct system which leads conditioned air from the air handler in to the bedroom or office space, and which takes air from the room space and returns it to the chilling device air handler.

7. Heat Pump Structures use the very same elements as observed above, with the addition of a reversing valve that in simple terms permits the system to work in reverse order in cold temperature. And so in air conditioning mode the heat pump is transferring warmth from inside the building to outside whilst in heating mode the hotness pump is shifting hot temperature from outside air onto the building indoors.

8. Air conditioner controls comprising of a room thermostat, electrical switches, fuses or electrical circuit breakers, condensate managing system, and air filtration systems.
