Learn About The Dyson DC24 Vacuum Cleaner

By Ray Hauser

In 1993, James Dyson established the Dyson Company in Great Britain. Dyson develops and builds vacuum cleaners that have the revolutionary cyclonic design. These vacuum cleaners don't require catch bags. Dust and dirt are deposited into a removable, transparent bin which is easily detached and emptied.

The DC24 is one of the best vacuum cleaners available on the market. This economical and compact machine is available in two models, the all floor/multi floor version and the Animal version which is particularly beneficial for people with pets.

The DC24 costs $300 to $400 and incorporates Dyson's "Root Cyclone" and "steering ball" technologies. Standard vacuum cleaners primarily draw debris laden air through small holes and deposit dirt into catch bags. These holes eventually get clogged and disrupt the machine's suction power.

Root cyclone technology completely eliminates this problem by using cyclonic separation. Air is forced into cyclones where it is spun at high speed. The high velocity hurtles all the dirt and debris out of the swirling air and into a transparent catch bin. This machine doesn't need expensive catch bags and there is no loss in suction or cleaning power even after a lot of use. The DC24 is rated at 115 air watts.

The steering ball is the other major innovation incorporated into the DC24. Most regular vacuum cleaners have fixed wheels that make it easy to push or pull the machine in a straight line, but it's cumbersome to navigate in tight spots or around obstacles like furniture.

The steering ball obviates these navigational difficulties by using a ball which can rotate around itself in any direction. This ball makes it possible for the DC24 to sharply turn and operate in areas that are normally difficult to vacuum. The ball also contains the machine's electric motor which lowers the unit's center of gravity making the DC24 even more flexible and maneuverable.

The DC24 also incorporates a brush bar with nylon bristles. This bar can spin up to ninety times per second dislodging and sweeping up even the most stubborn dirt. The brush bar can be disabled by the touch of a button, so that the machine may be used on hard floors or delicate carpets.

The DC24 incorporates a high efficiency air filter (HEPA) to extricate tiny particles of allergens and dust including mold and pollen spores. This Dyson machine is so good at screening out allergens that it has been approved and certified by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. When the filter gets dirty, you can easily remove and wash it.

The DC24 also has a reversible wand for cleaning difficult to reach places like stairs and ceilings. A number of useful attachments are included for cleaning just about everything.

Dust and dirt is dumped into a clear catch bin which can be easily removed and emptied. After emptying, the catch bin snaps back into position and the DC24 is ready to use again. The lack of replaceable catch bags adds up to big savings over time.

The DC24 has a compressible handle and weighs only 11.65 pounds which makes it perfect for storing in small spaces like the back of a closet. This vacuum cleaner was put through so many rigorous quality tests that Dyson is able to offer a five year warranty on parts and labor.
