Keyword Research Do's And Don'ts From Long Island SEO Companies

By Paula Hess

Before you kick off your SEO campaign, you have to take part in a process known as keyword research. Without said process in place, you won't be able to figure out which terms of focus on during content creation. Fortunately, keyword research isn't as painstaking a process as you might believe. Here are a few do's and don'ts from Long Island SEO companies that will hopefully make this level of research easier for you.

DO note the importance of local search. One of the most important things to know about SEO is that local search goes a long way. Even if a company is established, it's in their best interest to hone in local terms if they never gave consideration to search engines. To expand on this, if a real estate company in Charlotte gained an interest in SEO, "North Carolina real estate agencies" might be a worthwhile term to start with. This is one of the ways that a local search strategy can be developed by names such as www.fishbat.com.

DON'T pay attention to terms with little volume. Some keywords gain more searches than others, meaning that your time should be spent wisely. As you conduct research on the matter, you'll find that certain keywords will only a few hundred searches per month. While this might seem worthwhile, the truth is that there are many other terms that dwarf this example. No one in the realm of Long Island SEO will be able to disagree with this.

DO recognize that some keywords are more seasonal than others. While this largely applies to ecommerce, this logic can be attributed to any company you can think of. Believe it or not, there are many keywords that fail to perform consistently year round. For example, SEO for resorts and hotels will see tremendous spikes during periods where most people are off of work. However, their traffic may be stagnant the rest of the time. Seasonal SEO affects businesses in a number of ways, but its presence must be noted.

DON'T shift your efforts so hastily. If your keywords fail to perform in the first few weeks, you should know that this is perfectly normal. One of the cardinal rules regarding SEO is that it takes a few months to generate substantial results. What this means is that you cannot shift your efforts so hastily, using different keywords than the ones you initially settled on. Stick with your current strategy and it will eventually pay off.
