Bis phenol A is utilized when companies are manufacturing plastic containers because it makes them more durable. Without it or similar substances that make plastics stronger, soap dishes, baby bottles and other items that are regularly used around the home would fall apart quickly. There are several chemicals which operate like it.

The issue with Bis phenol A comes from the fact that it behaves just like estrogen. Estrogen is a female hormone that is responsible for many of the traits exhibited by women, such as healthy breasts. It plays an active part in reproduction and in overall health in girls. Without adequate quantities of it, there many be problems in the body.

When girls as young as four or five as exposed to BPA at an early age, they can end up developing breasts and other features that are associated with girls who have gone through puberty. In fact, they start showing these characteristics earlier than they should. They may begin menstruation and even have problems as a result.

Boys will be affected by having Bis phenol A in their diet too. Many boys who have a diet that is tainted with toxic chemicals such as this one will show signs in just a few years. Some start developing breasts even before the age of nine, just because they were exposed to substances that mimic female hormones.

Baby bottles, plastics that adults carry lunch in, water bottles that are used by joggers and a host of other vessels may all be a source of danger. Those plastics release lots of nasty chemicals when they are heated. However, they do not have to be subjected to heat for them to release toxins. They even leach substances into juice and water when you leave liquids sitting in them for a while.

There are lots of alternatives to containers that use the toxin so you should always shop wisely. Most vessels that are made without it say so clearly on the label. They cost the same as those that are made with it. For your own health and that of your family, try to avoid even small amounts of the chemical by reading labels before you buy.
