The Different Types Of Welding Baltimore Processes

By Grace Rivas

Welding Baltimore is a common fabrication process mainly used in joining mostly metals. The procedure involves melting the metal at the edge where you intend to add the joining material. This material should be added at the molten state. To ensure you come up with a strong joint, the molten material should be allowed some time to cool down. This method of joining enjoys much popularity given the efficiency and that it is very cost effective. Shared here are various ways to join materials through this process.

Stick type is the first method also commonly referred to as Shield metal Arc Welding (SMAW). People derive the slang name from the resemblance of the rod to a stick. The procedure depends on power to come up with an arc. This arc is then used to burn an electrode or a rod, which is mandatory equipment in the process. A rod is metallic by nature but has an external flux coating to keep air off the site to be welded as the rod burns.

The good thing with stick type process is that it is simple and practical. Another benefit is that it is cheap and work well on most metals, including those that are thick. These and other qualities have made gain popularity in joining metals in industrial building. In fact, this process form the basis of learning other joining process used in various learning institutions that train joining of metals.

The other type is metal inert gas, which is abbreviated as MIG. This process is considered as one of the easiest types to learn. It also uses an arc. A wire is fed to the joint and welded; it is normally connected to a source of power to produce an arc. This makes it melt once it come into contact with the metals to be weld.

An MIG gun is used in this method. It helps to combine electricity, the rod and the shielding gases at a go, and this ensures quality product. To start the joining process, you need to pull the trigger of the gun. This process is used in factories where fabrication of metallic product is large scale. This gun is easy to operate; however, you need experience to put the correct settings.

Tungsten inert gas is one of the most difficult processes to learn among those that produce an arc. It is abbreviated TIG. The good thing with this process is that it very versatile; most convectional metals are joined using this process. You need both hands in this process to effectively weld the joint. This is because you will need to hold a torch and the tungsten rod which is used to produce arc and heat with one hand while the other hand will feed the electrode.

An arc is created from current drawn from power supply. In this method, a filler metal, which in most cases looks exactly like a wire, is introduced to the joint to be welded. This method is most suitable for specific metals that demand a higher quality of weld. The biggest challenge with this method is the high cost involved in acquiring the equipments.

The last in the list is gas which is according to many people the ancient method of welding Baltimore. This process mostly uses oxygen and acetylene gases. The heat used is usually generated from a flame that emanates from a burning gas. It is recommended for automobile because of its versatility and the fact that it is portable.
