External Suction Vs. Chamber Vacuum Sealer

By Hedrick Lepsch

Which machine is right for you?

If you are in the market for a new vacuum sealer, you have different options. Until recently, the only economical choice a home vacuum sealer really had was a clamp-style, external suction machine, the most commonly used brands being FoodSaver and Seal a Meal.

There are a lot of people that do not realize that they will no longer be able to deal with freezer burn on their food. When you are using a freezer you have to make sure that you realize without a vacuum sealer oxygen will get into your food. No matter how well you think you close up that baggie, you have to understand that there is some air in the bag. As the air starts to freeze any moisture will start to work with the food and you will find that you get freezer burn.

External Vacuum Sealers

As you buy extra food in bulk you want to make sure that you understand how to seal it up and freeze it as soon as possible. There are a lot of people that do not realize that they should do this as soon as they get home. While you are taking the time that you need to seal the bag properly you will be able to keep anything fresh in the fridge. You can freeze vegetables and fruits to ensure that they do not go bad before you eat them.

Make sure that you take the time that you need to create portion sizes with the food that you buy. If you are buying a lot of meat you want to try to section it off into one pound sections so you can be sure that you are able to cook with it. While you are learning how you are going to cook with it, you want to make sure that you can defrost the meat. Take the time that you need to understand that you will want it in small portions so you can cook with it properly.

Chamber Vacuum Sealers

With a chamber vacuum machine, the entire bag that is placed inside the vacuum sealing machine and a lid is brought down over it. The chamber sealing machine removes all of the air from within the chamber, and when the vacuum cycle is finished the heat bar rises and applies the seal to the bag. Because the machine is never sucking on the open end of the bag, you can seal soups, stews, and virtually any liquid in the bag.

Finally, be sure that you are taking the time that you need to use the food your vacuum seal. Be sure that you remember what you have sealed so you can be sure you are able to use all of the food that you sealed.
