Why The Anime Video Review Still Remains Relevant

By Marylou Forbes

The world seems to be moving further and further away from the values that used to make movies a valuable and educational experience. Things are changing, and yet through all this change, movie reviewers of all genres, including anime video review still persist. The internet, as a free for all tool, is especially driving this change.

The internet is driving a culture where the market determines content, and not the other way round. Reviewers write a lot of hype to impress their customers and because they are constantly worrying about things like job security and advertisement revenue. However, in the midst of all this, one will find that the truly good movies are still very much present, however old they are.

Such movies survive because of the emphasis they placed on artistic expression and reflection. These are the virtues that movie reviewers must aim to always nurture and embrace. Their role is not just to write what people want to hear but to encourage movies to go the direction people should want to hear. Their job is complicated, especially if they are reviewing anime movies, which normally require a high level of detail.

Reviewing them requires an understanding of the complex details involved. Every movie reviewer must have an eye for detail, to see the things that not everyone sees when they watch a movie. They must see the little things that drive the plot and be analytical enough to spot the things they stand for. Every movie, including anime movies, normally has themes that one can apply to their lives every day.

The movie reviewer should be descriptive, and have such a way with words that they can describe the plot of the movie, or at least some part of it, in great detail. A video movie review contains a considerable amount of description of the plot and specifics of the film. It is descriptive of everything, including the characters and their development throughout the movie.

A step-by-step description by a reviewer is not just for the quality of a review, which is important. There is also the need to provide evidence from the movie when they are expounding on a theme. The better the description, the easier it is for their readers to understand it. It however should not be a step-by-step description like a script.

The review should not be used as a replacement for a movie, and this means avoiding any spoilers. Most movie reviews give the basic details of a movie and the initial developments of the plot. They avoid the defining moments of a film and leave the audiences to discover for themselves when they watch. Movie reviewers should not be storytellers, but provide a unique opinion or point of view.

The job of a reviewer is to provide a unique opinion of a movie, and invite their audience to watch the movie and form their own opinion too. The best movie reviews normally stand out for their fresh approach to matters. When reviewing an anime movie especially, not everyone will like this genre. To convince them, one will have to give a true firm and genuine opinion about the films to others. However, one must be careful not to appear to be imposing to the audience, but instead motivate them to watch the video and see for themselves.
