However, with all its advantages, the sun is also capable of inflicting some serious injury when one is exposed to it for long periods of time. There are also certain types of skin, especially white and light skins, which are very susceptible to damage by sunlight. The damage is usually caused in the form of sunburn. Severe cases of sunburns can be very dangerous warranting a stay in the hospital.

In a case where the sunburn is not serious, there are several home remedy options that can be used to ease the injury. This article will present several options that one can use to heal or make sunburns feel better. Most of these options may need to be used in combination in order to achieve quicker or better results. In case no difference is observed within a few days, it would be best to seek medical attention from a doctor.

Hydration is the first remedy. Sunburned skins are normally dehydrated and dry. This calls for one to efforts toward hydration. Hydration is meant to cool down the body. Taking fluids is a very good way of hydrating and helps in easing pain. Hydration fluids include water, sport drinks, and juice among many others. The fluids are supposed to be consumed in huge amounts. Hydration can be combined with application of cool milk on the affected area using a piece of clothing. A protein film that helps ease pain is created over the skin when one applies milk on the injury.

Besides applying milk to the skin, one can also apply cream that has aloe vera in it. Aloe vera soothes and moisturizes skin that is sunburnt. In place of aloe vera products, one can also use products that contain lidocaine, which can also sooth the skin. Additional products one can use for the skin include 1% hydrocortisone cream and cool compress that contains Burow solution.

Taking a cold bath or shower is also a remedy. Bathing is instrumental in cooling the skin. Use of necessary natural bath therapies is also recommended when taking a shower. Oatmeal bath, baking soda, chamomile oil or lavender, and apple cider vinegar among others are examples of recommended natural bath therapies. When one is sunburnt they are not supposed to use soaps and perfumes when bathing or showering.

Sometimes the skin is burnt to the point that it begins to peel off. When this is the case, peeling it further is highly discouraged. Instead professionals recommend that it be given time to heal on its own. Excess sunburn can also result into blisters. Expert advice in such cases is that they be left undisturbed and be covered.

If one is feeling pain, they can take some medication to ease it. There are several kinds of painkiller medications that one can take. These include naproxen and ibuprofen. These medications can also relieve inflammation. They are easily purchased from a pharmacy.
