Long Island Advertising Agencies: What Are Spectacles?

By Paula Hess

If you haven't heard of Spectacles, chances are that you weren't the only one. Unveiled by Snapchat, this was the social media company's first foray into the hardware market. Spectacles, on the surface, appear to be simple sunglasses. However, they can be used to record videos before they're shared to Snapchat. Growth of said hardware has been slow, however. Here is what you should know, courtesy of Long Island advertising agencies.

While Spectacles had limited availability to begin with, these sunglasses would soon become available to a bigger market. Despite this brave move, it failed to live up to its potential, as the demand didn't meet the increased supply. Many units were left unsold, as the likes of fishbat can attest. One could argue that this is mostly due to price, but Long Island advertising agencies across the board may be able to note other factors as well.

It can't be said that the concept of Spectacles isn't unique, given its functionality. The idea of recording video at any location before uploading it to Snapchat, all without opening the app on your phone, is novel. One could also argue that Spectacles, in a different time, would be a quirky fashion accessory. Spectacles did well as a limited run project, but it's clear that traction slowed once the product was made more available.

With this information in mind, one must wonder what could have been done to help Spectacles. Perhaps a lower price would entice potential buyers, but it's difficult to say. Not only is there a chance that this won't work, but Snapchat still has to make a profit at the end of the day. Greater awareness could go a long way, too. If more people know about the availability of Spectacles, it's safe to assume that sales will improve, at least to some extent.

While Spectacles might end up fading away, the same cannot be said for Snapchat as a whole. After all, it's a widely used social media platform, especially by those who love to take pictures and record videos. The app in question will continue to grow, and one can make the prediction that Spectacles won't be the company last attempt to get into the hardware market. It's a simple matter of creating an idea before bringing it out into the public.
