Flagpoles And Solar Powered Lightings

By Sarra Duane

Recent technological innovations have paved the way to the rebirth of flagpole lightings through solar powered ones. The most obvious benefit of solar powered lights is that they do not require the main outlet to power them. Instead, the lights have small solar panels that use sunlight to charge a battery. Many solar lights store enough charge throughout the day to provide illumination for up to 10 hours, although this period varies based on weather conditions and the positioning of the solar panels.

Solar power is produced by collecting sunlight and converting into electricity, heat and lighting. This is done by using solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity, and using solar thermal collectors to absorb solar energy for heating water.

Solar lightings are independent of the utility grid resulting to lessened operation costs. These means that these are wireless lights and are not connected to your electricity provider. The lights are dependent of the heat energy given off by the sun, storing as much of it throughout the day. Solar lightings require lesser maintenance than conventional ones.

Solar powered flagpole lightings are an excellent way for homeowners to reduce their carbon footprint. The lights charge throughout the day and then run off stored energy. This means homeowners are able to light their flags through the night with no additional energy consumption. Lighting a flagpole with electric lights for a comparable amount of time would constitute a large increase in energy consumption. Solar lightings are generally safer than electric lights, as there are no electrical cables. The lack of cables makes them a good choice for installations where there is a risk that children might trip over exposed cables from electrical lighting options. Solar powered lightings are also safer than lanterns, which pose a fire hazard.

On the other hand, if there are advantages, solar lightings also have a number of disadvantages. It also pays to make you aware of these few advantages just so you can compare it to conventional lighting systems. In the end, you just have to decide whether the advantages top the disadvantages or not.

Some disadvantages are the following. There is a barrage of cheap solar powered flagpole lightings being imported and sold, that do not comply with the flag statute. This is bad for a number of reasons. Imported stuff is cheaply made and more importantly, the designs, materials, colors, and methods do not compare well with the better quality, longer-lasting, and correctly designed flagpole lightings made by American manufacturers. The Flag Company Inc specialized in flags and flagpole lightings offered a special edition of solar powered flagpole lightings to provide innovative solutions for individual projects.
