GPS Fleet Tracking For Small Businesses

By Jonathan Eldrig

From the beginning of time, nations have been spying on other nations. Spies have been stealing secrets from other countries and monitoring the whereabouts and operations of these countries. We all love reading a great spy thriller and watching a great spy movie yet we seem so shocked to see that its actually happening in real life. We know it's happening yet it catches us by surprise. Do we really have any privacy anymore? If we know this is the case, then why is GPS Fleet Tracking still taboo to employees?

We offer a GPS fleet tracking solution that allows employers to see in real time or historically where their people are. The mobile GPS tracking industry has changed over the years. Nowadays Apps are installed on employees' phones which securely transmit their location throughout the day to a secure dashboard. This technology is incredibly powerful for a small business to help refine their operations. Unfortunately there is often an initial fear from the team when they hear about GPS fleet tracking. We work alongside these companies to help them explain to their employees that this solution merely relays their location on a map during their working hours. It's scheduled to stop transmitting when they stop working. Employees are being paid to perform a job in the field and asking for your reported whereabouts isn't an unreasonable request.

This GPS fleet tracking technology works across various industries and has varying benefits for each specific industry. Here is an article about how we decided to build our GPS tracking app based on all the feedback we were receiving. The simplest example of an industry using our software is a delivery company looking to see where each delivery is at any time. Rather than providing large useless windows of availability to clients, the office is able to see where a driver is at any time. With this information they are able to relay it to a client or notify the driver of an unforeseen accident or traffic backup. Outside of delivery, the GPS fleet tracking is great for small plumbing companies, HVAC repairs and other service type industries.

While there is often fear with tracking, there are reasons some of this is in place. In addition to the operational benefits that businesses get from real time location updates, there is an added layer of security for the employees. Many local and state governments are implementing or already enforcing tight restrictions on the number of hours that drivers are allowed to be on the field. This is to ensure that drivers are getting proper rest and aren't posing a risk to other people on the road. These logs are required to be kept by employers in the event they are audited. These checks and balances help keep employees safer.

Regardless of the benefits and reasons, we understand that people feel threatened. Its change and something new and with change comes fear. We understand that but hope to explain to employees why this transparency only makes for a better working relationship while also helping the company thrive. Employees don't want to waste time being sent to jobs on the other side of town or being routed to another job when they are still working on the current one. Information is power and with real time GPS fleet tracking, everyone is able to passively communicate their location helping the business operate smoother.
